Any plans to allow other kinds of payment besides Paypal? Aside from the fact that a growing number of people are moving away from Paypal, most traditional companies do not use it. I'd like to be able to use Google Checkout and accept credit cards.

Google Checkout would be nice...I've yet to see a nice "IPN style" script for it though.

Another option that's building is Revolution Money Exchange in the USA, but it has the potential to be BIG, but the others are more important

i second this suggestion.. a way for advertisers to pay using credit card should really be included. since a lot of people are already moving away from paypal. :(

If anyone can point me in the direction of a php script for a particular (credit card) processor that communicates the result of a transaction back to you, then I can add it as a payment method.

You can pay with a credit card right now, it's just not well communicated at all.

When you arrive on the Paypal home page to pay for the ad, there's a paragraph near the bottom with a link to pay by credit card if you don't have a Paypal account.

Because of this, I'm debating to hardcode the change so that advertisers will always see Paypal/Credit Card as a payment option. Currently, they'll turn away if they have no Paypal account and don't know better

What's the form change needed to make the page display the credit card as a payment option? (I actually thought that it already did that)

Do you mean so that when someone chooses 'credit card', they'll get sent directly to the Paypal homepage, saving them a step? That's not what I meant and not having checked how the urls are being passed, I don't know if it's possible but I imagine it would be.

I was just thinking of making it clearer that Paypal or credit card is the same route for now, by leaving only one option of "Paypal / Credit Card".

I was more referring to the layout of the page you first see on PayPal. It used to show credit card form on one side, and login form on the other for paypal account holders - so that you could pay either way.

How about adding alertpay and moneybookers?

  1.

I know the page you are talking about Simon. It was a split screen where you could do a one time credit card payment or you could login to pay pal / create an account.

Do you know if we can tweak the url to get back to that split screen? I have an account manager at pay pal if you tell me the right questions to ask.

I thought I remembered it; wish they hadn't changed it...

I suppose the question to ask would merely be 'is there a way to show someone who comes to the paypal site via an html checkout form the credit card / account login split screen'?

  2.

I'll check in and let you know what I find out. Which file is responsible for generating the buy button & the redirect to paypal?

Problem with Credit Card via Paypal is that it costs an arm and a leg for the Publisher, if you use the standard Paypal account. You can as well use it only 4 times a year or so. Switching to a Paypal Pro Account they then want a percentage of every transaction.

I would rather see a separate Credit Card processor than connected to Paypal.

    ;-)

Actually, so would I. With every week that goes by, I'm getting more and more fed up with Paypal

Simon, i believe http://www.paybox.com allows payments by credit card and can send to the publisher a validation...

Isn't paybox in essence the same / very similar to paypal though?

Hmm, you asked for a way to add payments via credit card ;)
The main difference is that paybox make it very clear from the start that you use credit card to purchase stuff... But on paypal page, it needs more atention to understand that you are not 'forced' to signup to make a purchase.
In my opinion, instead of addind a 'direct credit card' option, it would be more urgent to add a moneybookers option because lots of people switched from paypal to moneybookers...

Simon, for the more traditional customer relationships, in which the client has established credit with the publisher - open account, for instance - can you add a means for the buyer to place the order 'on their account'? In this case, after receiving the request to purchase on account, approval & confirmation of the order would be granted by the publisher by return email. Of course, there would need to be some way of validating the identity of the ad buyer.
