All suggestions are currently go towards the v1.6 release milestone, although not all can be incorporated.
Make them good! ;)
I would be awesome If we could become middle men ourselves, ala Adify . I run a series of blogs in a network type fashion and would love to not only be able to run the advertising across the entire network from one centralized location but I would also love it If I could allow webmasters who write for me to have a revenue share where I decide the rate.
Just a thought
I remember reading about Adify a while back, and did think it was a nice idea.
There is the very start of a centralised management console in the latest ad manager, which I started a few weeks ago; it lets you pull the purchase info in xml format. The end goal is to pull all that info into a central location (here initially) and let you manage ads all together.
The revenue share element could possibly done through the existing affiliate module - but if you want to expand on the idea more, feel free.
2 suggestions:
Ability to purchase multiple timeframe adverts. Say, 7, 14, 21 day options with correct price calculated.
And:
List of recently viewed posts to choose from when purchasing an advert. Having to copy and paste the correct article URL might confuse a lot of people.
Move all advertising style markup into a central CSS file. Right now there is mark up for ads coded in the output.php file that has to be manually changed each time I upgrade. If everything is in one central stylesheet (including the purchase pages), that would be a great help.
When an ad spot is full, users are not allows to purchase it. How about letting the transaction go through, so advertiser can hold the money, and put the person on a line. Ofcourse ask the purchases if it's okay, and let them know when their ad will start appearing.
Also, I want to sell RSS ads, and I'm not sure you integrate with RSS. I could do this manually, but would like a better option to purchase other than 'custom'. For example, I need them to be able to enter the number of characters i set, and no more. (i don't want essays in my feed footer).
All good suggestions! I'm currently involved with finishing off the integrated ad network, and some marketing work, but then I'll look towards incorporating these ideas into the future v1.6.
Hey Simon, I'm pretty new here but hopefully these suggestions make sense.
1. Would be cool if when Posting you could have integration with custom fields
somehow, so you could ask questions and put the answers in the post - by editing
the theme to include the custom field of course.
2. Have a "Sticky this Post for $x extra" and have the post be stuck to the
top of it's category for a certain number of days. There are a few plugins that
do this, so it could be integrated with one of them.....
3. Have posts made by others deleted or moved after set time period. Would be good
for job posting sites or similar.
I'll probably have more strange ideas but this is all I can think of for now.
Hi, since the idea of OIO Publisher is to help automate advertising, I'd like to extend the ad sales and affiliate program to a newsletter!
If you could add a simple double opt-in system, then we could ALSO sell ad spaces on our weekly newsletter... In fact, we could sell geo-targeted ads based on our members that have singed in to post.
I'm sure this would make it a complete solution for automated ad sales... It would create amazing Buzzz (not a typo) it's just the new site I want to use with your program: ShoppingBuzzz.com
Also, I'm not sure if your system lets me my OIO affiliates share in my affiliate earnings - I plan to make my own reviews about affiliate sites and include my affiliate link... can I somehow pay people for posting comments and product specials they've found at that retailer?
Like I said above, I'm starting a shopping blog (shoppingBuzzz.com) where I'll be posting information about shopping sites and I would like people to be able to buy a comment spot (where they could comment on a particular product and put their affiliate link) maybe even have your system cloak it for them... That way, They would be encouraged to contribute the best deals they've found make some money without having to set-up their own affilate program. In fact, it could make me money if I helped that shopping site gain a new affiliate by including a link to the sign-up page for their affiliate program!
So, to repeat, I would have a general affiliate link to the main shopping site after my review, and the commenter's could buy a really low priced ad to put to put a comment on a specific product or product category... (a deep link) this really low cost ad would attract many people (that have no idea on how to set-up affiliate sites) to comment on what they like and get paid for it... Actually, it would be great if I could split their commission with them... but I don't think that would be possible - or would it?
Maybe I'm not quite understanding, but if you are using the whole / part of the blog as a newsletter, then a double-optin system need not be part of the ad system, it could be added independently.
The plugin is primarily an ad manager at this stage, so it will place the ads wherever you want them on the blog, and if you want to turn that into a newsletter, then that's really something separate.
The affiliate system included is just setup to let people take commission on ad sales (or any digital downloads / custom services offered) - it isn't meant to share commission around between different people, so that would need to be done manually.
Just an update. v1.60 is close to release (it's been undergoing testing this weekend).
* ad queue is in place
* html can now be used in the default ad system
* most output styling has been moved into a new css file
* new upgrade alert system
* around 20 bug fixes from v1.52
* integration with ViralBlogAds.com (1 click signup available upon opening)
I'm still debating whether to slot in a multi-timeframe purchase option, and an alt text option for images - it will depend on timing constraints.
Thanks for all the other suggestions; they may well still come into play later. Keep suggestions coming, since they will always be considered!
Hi
Just found out about a new affiliate ad network: www.pepperjamnetwork.com - they let you create widgets of affiliate programs so that you can promote themes... seems VERY INTERESTING and something we should add to OIOpublisher!
What do you think?
In what capacity? If it's just for your own use, as opposed to advertisers using it, then I think v1.6 (should be released this coming week) will cover it. You'll be able to use any html you want in the default ad slots, and you can already use html in the admin purchase manager.
If it is for the use of advertisers, then you'll have to explain a little more.
I'm new to blogging in general, so I'm sorry if I'm asking questions that are already in your system. I'd like to offer the same advertisers that advertise on the blog to be able to be included in the newsletter for an additional price... and have it all run automatically with the same database of advertisers.
I hope that's clear now, thanks for your great product which I'll be buying when you come out with your new version this week.

P.S. Can you recommend a good basic set-up site for setting up wp for what I'm trying to do? A recommendation site with my affiliate codes built into the review and a revenue sharing set-up for people who post comments with specific product deals that they recommend on the same store that I reviewed?
Thanks... I'd like to set this all-up asap on www.ShoppingBuzzz.com
My bad if this feature is already available and I don't know about it (I only bought this a few hours ago), but I think a coupon or discount code option should be available. I'd love to be able to give a certain code out to a few select readers or webmasters who could then use it to get $10 off their purchase or lower the ad price of a zone by $5, etc.
@ glewis1 - I can't really think of anything off the top of my head. There are a few plugins around that will automatically add links to certain phrases (eg. http://www.headzoo.com/alinks), so that you could add your affiliate codes automatically. For the revenue share part, I suppose you'd need a plugin that rotates the comment poster's affiliate ID with your own for that particular site - you'd have to check on wordpress.org to see what is available.
@ goob - no, it's not available, and yes, it should be! I'd certainly like to write a coupon code module for it at some stage.
I would second the coupon code idea so we could run our own "special" on the OIO plugin with the discount coming from our affiliate commission of course.
Hi -
Good to be in the company of such entrepreneurial spirited folks. My suggestion is like the very first one at top, from "onlinesalestutor" -- but with a twist. I too would like to see the ability to sell ads running across several different blogs in a "network", and also the ability to award writers a share of the revenue. Here are my "twists":
- Allow publishers with allied (related content) networks to create ad buys on just their sites (ability to set up mini, exclusive networks)
- Allow for a "master affiliate" to have one easy interface through which to sell ads across a network (then allied publishers could work with one centralized sales person/team)
Oh.. and it would be good to make it easy for affiliates to download sales materials (ie. PDF of Ad Rate Cards/Demographic sheets, etc.).
Thanks... let's keep this thing percolating.

Something to consider for the future certainly, good idea.
