I just entered a test ad purchase into my system. All looked to go well with 2 exceptions. Thankfully I have it set to not run until I approve and was able to see the following issues:
1) Even though I have nofollow set to yes, the banner came over with nofollow set to no.
2) The start date was shown as 12/31/69 17:00:00 for the start date.
Any ideas what the issue might be. I tried to search the forum but didnt see this bug. Thanks
PS - I dont see anywhere on here the ability to subscribe to this post for followup. ?? I suppose Ill check back to see if it has been answered. attached is a screenshot.
The start date bug isn't technically a bug. It's just that before a payment is made, there is no start date. The admin editor will still try and format the empty value into a date (might force it to appear blank in a future version though).
The nofollow one is a good spot - the actual problem is that the option shouldn't appear at all unless the zone nofollow value is "user choice" (because otherwise its the zone settings that dictate what happens, not the ad settings). The nofollow value of the ad will still be correct, which is probably why it hasn't been reported before. I'll correct the display in the next version.
The "subscribe to discussion" plugin for this forum has always been hit and miss. I managed to track down what the issue was, but have had to relay my findings to the plugin author so that he can fix it (I don't have time at the moment myself).

1) So, if I go and just approve something, without editing it first, what date will it start at? There is no option for the user to put in a date. What if they want to order an ad starting next wed, for example?
2) Clarification on the nofollow - you are correct that no option was shown to me as a test user when ordering, which is good. However, when it came over for me to approve, it was "no" for nofollow, even though I have set everything as "yes" for no follow, so I have to manually edit and change each one - which is when I discovered the date issue as well.
3) Thanks, I feel better cause Ive always asked that someone email me when there is a reply and last time I was emailed with a note saying that if I wanted to subscribe to the topic, it is easy to do, so I felt like an idiot in that I dont see anyway - now I feel better. bout that.
Ok, so another issue. I just scheduled it and approved a banner to run Start: Wed 1 July 2009 (which it shows in the admin console), and just checked the site, where it is not yet JULY 1st, and it is live....
You need to check that the status of the ad is set to queued in order for it to be scheduled. If it's set to active, the ad will be shown regardless of what start date you use.

#2) Regarding your response - That is exactly my point. Why isnt it marked as queued?
Oh sorry, I didn't see the post above! I only looked at the "and another issue" entry. I'll check the other one over shortly.
Start Date (queuing vs scheduling)
I think where the confusion is coming in is that you see the "start date" option as being a scheduler, but it is only used to calculate expiration dates, not to schedule an ad.
The "queue" feature simply replaces one ad when it expires with another, so the start date in that case depends on when other ads expire. The script doesn't contain full scheduling capabilities, although it might be useful in a future version.
I'm trying to think of something else to call the "start date" option to stop the confusion. In most cases start date = payment date, but not always (eg. if an ad was queued, then gets made active when another ad expires, the start date would be the time it gets made active).
EDIT: I've been playing with various options on the test site, and come to the conclusion that the best course of action is to remove the "start date" option from view.

See above for a more detailed explanation. In short, you can't schedule posts to start on a particular day in the future. The queue only kicks in when another ad expires.

I might not have explained it well initially, but because you set the nofollow status of the zone to "yes", all the ads will have nofollow attached to them, even if the individual ads have a nofollow status of "no". The only issue was that you shouldn't see the nofollow dropdown menu at all when the zone is set to not give the user the choice.

Yes, it's quite a pain that it never worked properly. Hopefully it will get sorted out by the guy who wrote it.
