hi, I use a mix of regular Wordpress and Wordpress MU along with the occasional bbpress install.

I do affiliate marketing and informative posts to my blogs. I'm looking for a solution for showing affiliate banner ad geotargeted by country, G. Adsense, and I'd like to be able to make "ads, adverts for you I think" for regions that are just special text that are for people in that country.

I would also like to sell a few adspots. I suppose the ideal situation would be to have ad positions for sale with Paypal payment and have them default to affiliate ads or Adsense when not sold.

What do you think, will this meet my needs?

I could also use a clarification. I saw in the "demo" that when you click on advertise, the purchase ad window pops up. Once an ad is sold, does it appear automatically or do I have to manually install it? Once an ad expires, does it automatically disappear or do I have to manually remove it.

If I buy OIO publisher do I need a license per site? I run many niches that really don't get that much traffic.

Thank you for your time and effort.

It looks as though it should meet your needs. It's only 1 licence required for unlimited domain usage.

You can add an unlimited number of default ads, and include / exclude them by visitor location (country level).

    http://demo.oiopublisher.com/demo-admin/admin.php?page=oiopub-settings.php&opt=banner

Default ads, as the name suggests, appear only when there are no purchased items being displayed in that particular ad zone. You can also display ad code (eg. google adsense) in a zone, by using the "create a new purchase" feature in the admin area (works for banner ads and inline ads only):

    http://demo.oiopublisher.com/demo-admin/admin.php?page=oiopub-manager.php

As far as ads appearing / expiring go, the only thing you have to do is approve ads (you get an email notification, and then all you have to do is login, and press approve or reject). The ads appear automatically, an expire automatically.

The only thing that maybe lacking from your point of view, is a central management console (to manage ads over multiple blogs in a network from one place), but that's on the to-do list. :)

  2.

Hi, for some unknown reason the system lost my password so I had to register again when the change password feature didn't work.

ok, so I could for example have an "ad/advert" that is really text or HTML for a visitor from a certain country, right? I'd love to use geo-location/targeting to make my posts better in that way.

You don't yet have a way to manage ads from multiple blogs, so it would be separate installs one per blog, but I assume I could have it all go through the same paypal account.

Are there special install instructions for Wordpress-MU? (I'll be installing on Wordpress-MU first)

    Thank you!

"ok, so I could for example have an "ad/advert" that is really text or HTML for a visitor from a certain country, right? I'd love to use geo-location/targeting to make my posts better in that way."

Well, you can use the geolocation aspect to change which inline post ads and banner ads appear, based on the vistor's IP location. They don't currently accept html / text, just images. I could probably extend it to accept text or html though.

Everything can go through the same paypal account, since that's independent. For what you are looking to do, you'd need to install it on every blog anyway, because otherwise you'd have no control over what showed on what blog.

There is a way to show ads "anywhere" (not just the site you install on), using javascript, but I doubt that would suit your needs:

I have never had anyone install it on WPMU, so I can't say whether any special instructions would be required. I wouldn't expect any though.

Please do. It is important for me to be able to have some kind of in-post geo-target html/text function preferably with a fixed width and undefined height. How long do you think it would take to throw something together? It doesn't even have to be an ad at first. I'm going to go ahead and place my order.

FYI - my second username and password are not working today so here I am with yet another set.

That's odd, no one else has reported any problems. Did you use any special characters in the password (ie. not letters or numbers)?

If you can't login again, let me know via the contact form (since you'll need access to your current account in order to download the plugin, updates etc).

I might need some more info on what exactly you want to do with this inpost stuff. It almost sounds like you want to change the post text itself based on what the visitor location is? The plugin isn't really designed to display lots of different things inside the posts themselves (inline ads display at the top right of a post, which I could extend to allow text / html however).

I'd suggest playing around with the current plugin first, so that you can then outline anything extra you'd like. No guarantees I'll have the time for exactly what you want, but I'll do what I can.

  4.

hi, I've made the purchase under the username with 3. No I didn't use any special characters in my username or password.

I installed the plugin on one blog as a test and I've been looking at the options Since I can set the width and height of the geotargeted default ads, it looks like I'll just need an option to paste html in a field instead of the image url, etc. If I understand correctly, the "inline" ads are for single posts, right?

    Simon,
I'd like to be able to have a zone with a width I can set and an unset (indefinite) height for HTML on a per post basis that I could optionally set as not-for-sale. Perhaps we could call it "geo-content" since it would be the same basic system and it could be used for in-house ads, announcements, country specific language or sold externally.

I do NOT want to change the entire post content. I will have normal regular content. I'd like to just have additional country specific content above the regular content (like an ad). I could also use it to describe shipping options of that page's products to that country (or the lack of shipping). I could mention special promotions for that region or use that space for an affiliate ad for that country.

I'd want this zone to appear in my post above my normal content. Perhaps I'd paste some code in my template files to show where it goes, or perhaps you could just have it appear in "the loop" after the post title. You mentioned that the ads currently appear in the top-right of a post. Would it be difficult to make it just appear across the top?

I hope I'm not making it sound complicated because I really don't think it would be much different from what you currently have in the plugin. If it still isn't clear, please reply here.

    Thank you

  5.

FYI - on a side note. I wanted to comment that most of the affiliate ads I use, have HTML, so even from a non-content perspective it would still be useful for others.

I'll try and put something together over the next few days. The simplest solution would seem to be to take the default ads for both inline ads, and banner ads, and then enable an html alternative to the image output.

If you then wanted to put an ad zone above a post, you could use a banner ad zone, and put the output code above / in the loop in the WP template.

  6.

    That makes sense to me.

I'm still a little confused about how to set up the "ads" with Zones. I'll wait until you have something put together. Thank you Simon!

You start off by selecting the number of zones you'd like to create, on the top right of the Settings -> Banners page. Then you go through each zone in turn, and configure the particular settings you want for it (including default ads).

Finally, you take the code snippet at the top of the page (should be highlighted in green) and place it in your WP theme file, wherever you want it to appear.

Just wanted to leave a note to say I haven't forgotten about this. I've got a number of things to polish off first before I can get round to it, but will let you know once I've had a stab at it.

  7.

    hi Simon,

I understand. As an FYI, I tried using the plugin on the Multiuser version of wordpress. Unfortunately it treats each blog as a separate install so sitewide and homepage don't make sense.

Ah right. To be honest, I assumed that's the functionality you were looking for. WPMU is just a collection of blogs, so the plugin will always treat them as such.

I haven't looked at WPMU for ages, but unless it has a set of global functions (ie. is_global_home() or is_global_site()), then I don't think there's anything that can be done to change the default behavior.

  8.

Getting it working right on MU isn't a priority. Getting the geo-content is very important.

FYI - I've updated a few of my regular blogs to WP2.5 and it seems to be working ok, at least all the widgets appear, and the purchase form appears when clicked on.

I did a quick search for "wordpress-mu global variables" and I found the following:

    http://codex.wordpress.org/WPMU_Functions
    http://codex.wordpress.org/WPMU_Global_Variables

I'm sure there is more information out there, but since I'm not a programmer, I really don't know what do do with it all.

Yeh, I haven't had any problems with WP 2.5 so far either.

As for WPMU, I don't think there is a simple solution to it. Your best bet might actually be to use the javascript solution (see the link a few posts above) to display ad zones wherever you like in any of the blogs.

I'll be sure to email you when I get a chance to try extending the geo-targeting capabilities, although I'm not quite sure when that will be yet.

  9.

    hi Simon,

Have you had any time to look into adding HTML as an option for ad zones?

Unfortunately I'm in a backlog right now. I lost access to my PC over the weekend due to my AC adapter packing up (I've got no access to my development code for the moment), whilst at the same time trying to catch up with emails from the DealDotCom sale.

Once I'm back up and running properly, then I'll look to add the HTML option (I'd actually just started work on it along an ad queue option before everything else came up).
